from Concerned Citizens of Macon County
In light of the recent commissioners meeting that became heated at times and the subsequent fallout from misinformation by several local sources, we would like to thank each of the 5 commissioners for their service.
We especially want to express our gratitude to Commissioners Higdon and Shearl for their unwavering support for each and every Maconian by their votes to hold local government accountable to spend money wisely.
Macon County is in need of many capital improvements in this unprecedented inflationary environment that has all of us struggling financially. The question remains, "How does Macon County pay for these expenditures as well as regular upkeep on existing assets when so many funds are used to increase the size of local government."
Commissioners Higdon and Shearl have proven their commitment to county employees multiple times in the past because Macon County has a great staff of county workers. However, Maconians are confident that higher taxes and inefficient spending are not sustainable for future growth and stewardship of current resources.
We invite Commissioners Antione, Young, and Shields to work together as an entire board to uphold limited government principles that represent ALL taxpayers and not merely special interests within county departments. Together, Maconians can overcome financial obstacles to achieve necessary goals without taxpayer burden.
Again, thank you to Commissioners Higdon and Shearl for your difficult, yet conservative and responsible, votes to put taxpayers and Macon County first.
Sincerely,
Concerned Citizens of Macon County
